He planned a romantic New Year’s Eve; candles, champagne, roses, and an engagement ring. It would be perfect. After an elegant dinner, they went to the suite. He entered first to make sure everything was set. Suddenly, he realized he lost the key to the safe, the ring was inside.
It'll make a great story to tell their grandkids!! Now I want to know what he used instead of the ring!

ReplyDeleteThis story really illustrates the challenges of trying to plan romantc moments. The numerous hours spent thinking, planning, and organizing. Then the moment comes and the plan flys out the window. That's when it is time to display the skills of improvising. I am sure this mini saga spoke to many people's emotions.

To answer some of your questions, this is indeed a true story; the story of how I proposed to my wife.
ReplyDeleteI did indeed propose without the ring, as hotel maintenance was already gone for the night and only they have the master key. I then proposed again in the morning after maintenance came and opened the safe. :)
Later that winter, my inlaws found the key frozen in their driveway, it had fallen out of my pocket when I was there earlier in the day (there was a bad snow storm that day).
In the end, we have a story that we will be able to tell people years and years from now, and we will always have that key as a keepsake.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was reading your mini-saga I felt like I was reading a romance novel. I could picture this whole night unfolding from the crisp cold winter weather while two people in love were warm inside a restaurant. I also found the story to be funny because it helps emphasize how being nervous cause also cause you to be absent minded sometimes. I think you certainly have a great story to tell people in the years to come. Thanks for sharing it with us!!
